From my eyes to my heart

After watching the series “ways of seeing”, I have developed a better understanding of how to appreciate art. The invention of camera has helped people record and capture moments more easily and quickly. The photos of arts can help them spread to more people. Also people can take pictures of some fragile or damageable arts like sculptures. While the camera bring a lot benefits, there are also some disadvantages of using cameras to take pictures of art works, one such disadvantage is that it can lower the value of the art in people’s mind, but it won’t change the real value of the art itself.

I visited the Church of Holy Mary of Grace in Milano once, the famous painting “Last Super” is inside the church. I couldn’t take photos of the painting and the visiting time was limited. There was an audio guide that can give me interpretation of the painting. I remember that time I was really focused on the painting, observed it carefully and listened to the interpretation attentively. I think the reason why I paid more attention to this painting is that I knew I didn’t have much time to admire it. More importantly is that I could not take a photo and bring it home. Now I still can remember the mood when I first stepped into the church and saw the great painting, the light shining on it, its faded color and the silent of the church.

However, the first time I learn about this painting was through a photo in my textbookwhen I was in junior high school. Camera made a great contribution to the spread of art works. Without the copy from my textbook, I would have probably never heard about his painting and would not have ever seen it. I cannot say the invention of camera is a bad or a good thing for art works. It is just like a double-edged sword and we should understand in which situation we can take advantage of it.

With the enormous development in the field of electric technology, there are such different ways of how to appreciate art works, arts could be misunderstood by people all the time. So for the artist, learning how to perceive and understand the outside world is a very important quality. I think the the purpose of artistic creation is not giving the solutions of various problems, instead their duty is to offer more ways of how to see the world and change the world.

In the video ”Last Supper” is to show my respect to the great painting “Last Supper” which is painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. I introduced this great painting by telling a story, in the end I indicated that this painting is inside the Church of Holy Mary of Grace, people should go to there and see it if have opportunities, it would be a completely different and amazing experience. The music I used is Symphony No. 7 Second Movement composed by Ludwig van Beethoven.
